Types of Counseling

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling focuses on providing therapeutic support and guidance to an individual client, addressing your personal concerns, challenges, and issues. Your counselor will work one-on-one with you to explore thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences, aiming to help you gain insight, develop coping strategies, and make lasting changes in your life.

Couples Counseling

Couples Counseling involves addressing conflicts, improving communication, exploring relational patterns, identifying underlying issues, and strengthening couples’ relationship. Unlike individual counseling, which focuses on one person's personal issues, couples counseling focuses on the dynamics between two individuals in a relationship. We also offer pre-engagement and premarital counseling.

How I Do It

I use evidence-based theories and methods that have been tried and tested. In sessions, I typically use a mixture of these methods to comprehensively address your concerns.

Working with me, you can rest assured I only use research-backed methods to support you as you heal and grow. These are some of the theories and modalities I use and incorporate in my work.

  • Experiential therapy is like diving into the heart of your emotions and experiences to find healing and growth. This therapy is all about creating new experiences so you can rewrite old, painful narratives.

Experiential therapy uses creative activities or exercises that bring those emotions to life. It's like exploring your inner landscape through action. We may do things like writing letters, healing your inner child, or using a white board to draw out ideas and pictures. This hands-on approach can help you break free from old patterns, build stronger connections with yourself and others, and connect emotionally, not just intellectually.

  • Person-centered therapy is like having a supportive ally by your side as you navigate life's ups and downs. Unlike traditional therapy where the therapist takes the lead, person-centered therapy puts YOU at the center. You and your therapist will collaborate together to make connections and gain insights. It's all about creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of criticism or pressure to change.

Your therapist listens deeply, offering empathy, understanding, and unconditional positive regard every step of the way. Together, you collaborate to develop insight, clarify your values, and identify your strengths. It's like having someone shine a gentle light on your path as you journey towards self-discovery and personal growth. With person-centered therapy, you're not just a client—you're an active participant in your own healing journey, empowered to find your own answers and live authentically.

  • Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) focuses on the deep emotional connections between you and your loved ones. It's all about understanding the patterns and cycles that keep you stuck in negative interactions and finding new ways to create bonds that heal and strengthen.

Picture unraveling the tangled threads of your emotions and weaving them into a tapestry of understanding and connection. Your therapist gently supports you as you explore vulnerable feelings, communicate more effectively, and deepen your emotional intimacy with those who matter most.

Through EFT, you learn to recognize and express your needs, while also attuning to the needs of others, fostering a sense of safety, trust, and closeness in your relationships. So, if you're ready to break free from old patterns and cultivate deeper, more meaningful connections, EFT could be the key to unlocking the love and connection you crave.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy allows you to embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing, guided by an understanding and compassionate navigator. Unlike other forms of therapy where the focus is on individual symptoms or behaviors, IFS views the mind as a complex ecosystem of different "parts," each with its own thoughts, feelings, and desires. It's like getting to know the diverse cast of characters that make up your inner world—the protectors, the wounded, the wise, and the playful. Your therapist helps you explore these inner parts with curiosity and kindness, uncovering the stories and emotions that shape your thoughts and behaviors.

Together, you work to understand the roles these parts play and how they interact with each other. Through gentle exploration and dialogue, you learn to cultivate self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-leadership, allowing you to heal old wounds, resolve inner conflicts, and live more authentically. With IFS, you become the compassionate leader of your own inner parts, guiding each part towards harmony, wholeness, and integration.

  • Attachment therapy delves into the blueprint of your closest relationships, understanding the roots of how you connect with others and nurturing healthier bonds. Instead of focusing solely on current issues, attachment therapy explores the deep-seated patterns and dynamics that shape how you relate to others, as this creates lasting change in your life. It's like peeling back the layers of your past experiences to reveal the building blocks of your attachment style—the way you give and receive love, trust, and support.

Your therapist provides a safe space to explore these patterns, helping you understand how early experiences with caregivers continue to influence your relationships today. Through compassionate exploration and gentle guidance, you learn to recognize and heal attachment wounds, develop greater emotional resilience, and cultivate more secure and fulfilling connections with others. With attachment therapy, you begin a journey of self-discovery and relationship growth, laying the foundation for deeper intimacy, trust, and satisfaction in all areas of your life.

  • Family Systems addresses the intricate web of connections between different aspects of your life. Unlike traditional therapy that might focus solely on individual experiences, systems theory zooms out to consider the larger context in which you live and interact. It's like stepping back to see the bigger picture—the family, the community, the culture—all the interlocking systems that influence who you are and how you experience the world. Your therapist helps you explore these interconnected systems with curiosity and compassion, understanding how changes in one part of the system ripple out to affect the whole.

Together, you identify patterns, roles, and dynamics within these systems, gaining insight into how they shape and reinforce patterns in behaviors, and relationships. Through exploration and dialogue, you learn to navigate these systems more effectively, making conscious choices that align with your values and goals. With systems theory, therapy becomes a collaborative process of understanding and change, empowering you to create more harmony, balance, and resilience in your family.
